Mid-Hudson Discovery Museum Event
(Poughkeepsie, NY)
2025

Several families met at the Mid Hudson Discovery Museum in Poughkeepsie, NY on Saturday, March 29th for an event organized by New York Hands and Voices.
Families with deaf/hard of hearing children, as well as a deaf adult and Teacher of the Deaf, met in the museum’s party space to chat, catch up and meet new folks while the kids explored the many interactive exhibits and play areas. After enjoying bagels and snacks, everyone gathered around to watch a science experiment by a member of the museum staff, accompanied by an ASL interpreter. Then, it was back to taking advantage of all the fun the Mid Hudson Discovery Museum has to offer. While the museum was also open to the public, the party space offered a more private setting for parents to connect and share their experiences and resources. Each child who attended received a free pass for a future visit to the museum, and everyone who attended the Hands and Voices event could stay at the museum as long as they liked that day.
The event was sponsored by the New York State Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program (NY EDHI).
