Apple Picking
(Albany, NY)
2025

We had a wonderful turnout at our Hands & Voices event on Sunday, September 7 at the Indian Ladder Farm.
We had 19 families with over 30 children attend our event at the Apple farm. We had an Interpreter at our event who assisted with the deaf adults. She was also able to teach animal ASL vocabulary and taught the song “Old MacDonald” in sign language.
Because we had Grant money from EDHI, we were able to pay for all the apples that the parents were able to pick. Afterwards we met at our picnic tables near the animals and the play area and we provided cider donuts and apple cider for a snack. Our educational component was not only teaching signs for the farm animals, but we also provided handouts with activities related to “apples” including songs, arts and crafts and a recipe to make apple sauce. We also shared a scavenger hunt sheet with all of the animals on the farm, which included the “sign” for each of those animals. We had so many new families and children there and it was nice to see everyone socializing and having a great time. Lots of wonderful and positive feedback.
Apple picking sponsored by the New York State Early Hearing Detection and Intervention program (NY EHDI).
