Ice Cream Social Event
(Kingston, NY)
2026

Our Hudson Valley group of families met in Kingston for ice cream and fun in the park! Sponsored by NY EHDI, the event provided opportunities for connection, learning, and play in an inclusive environment. Families participated in an animal-themed scavenger hunt in the Nature Center, participated in a summer ASL sign-a-long activity with Diana Phelps, ASL teacher and CODA, and enjoyed an ice cream sundae bar. Families represented a variety of communication approaches where all participants were welcomed, supported, and included.
The event was organized by Hands & Voices of NY parent members Gillian, Kit, Andréa and Abbey. Thank you to our volunteer interpreter Molly Wilson, and volunteers Chris, Andree, Pam, Alejandro, and Vienna!
One parent’s comment “I love that parents are able to get together & talk to other parents/families that are in the same position. Also that kids get to be around other people with cochlear implants to see that theres other people like them. I appreciate all the time & effort put into these events!”
The event was sponsored by the New York State Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program (NY EDHI) and Hands and Voices of New York.
