Ice Cream Social Event

(Westchester, NY)

2026

Children playing

Our Westchester Ice Cream Social was enjoyed by families! We started the hot day event with ice cream. Kids used their communication skills and ordered ice cream individually.

Followed by a chalk art project for kids (actually not just kids, most adults joined in and had fun, even jumped the hopscotch!) Kids loved playing at the play area with miniature school bus and playhouses. One of the families attending had questions about Usher Syndrome so we used the time to talk about Deaf-Blindness and different organizations offering services throughout NY state.

We talked about NY Parent Association for DeafBlind, NY DeafBlind Collaborative and National Family Association for DeafBlind. Parents learned about how low vision affects deaf kids and what to ask during IEP meetings to get the evals and services the children may need. The event was scheduled to end at 1pm but everyone had a wonderful time so we stayed until almost 2pm.

Thank you to our parent members Tara and Jitka for organizing! Reach out to be connected to Tara and Jitka at the Westchester group for future events.

Thank you to NY EHDI for sponsoring this event!

The event was sponsored by the New York State Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Program (NY EDHI) and Hands and Voices of New York.
