Families had a lovely time at the ASL inclusive reading of the fan favorite book I DEAF-initely Can by Deaf author Karlie Waldrip last month at the Mamaroneck Public Library in Westchester on Dec 13.

This Hands & Voices of NY event was sponsored by NY EHDI. Many thanks to our parent organizers Jitka and Tara who collaborated with HELLO Lab to put on this awesome event.

We were honored to have NYSD Superintendent, Dr. Joseph Santini as our guest reader. Thank you Dr. Santini!

Kids were able to enjoy art projects and play time in addition to the story. Parents had time to mingle and meet one another. The story was read in ASL and then in English. We had snacks, water bottles, toys and a copy of the book for kids to enjoy and take home.

Some family responses when asked their favorite part of the event:
“The stories and community”
“Watching my child work on her social skills”
“Allowing the kids to play freely”
“The ASL reading and the kids having fun together”

Looking forward to seeing you all next time!
