Summer Kickoff

(Colonie, NY)

2025

Children on playground

We had our Hands and Voices event this morning at Cook Park. The rain held off for our two hour event, which was from 9 to 11. We had a great turnout. We also had an interpreter there (Kim Dergosits) who was able to mingle with all the families including the three deaf families and their children. She also brought her daughter who is a deaf adult, who actually knew several of the people there from childhood and their school years.

There was a total of 52 people who attended, three deaf families, 13 families with deaf/hh children, 14 deaf/hh children, and 6 deaf adults.

We had handouts for the families containing  resources and information on summer safety tips for deaf/ hard of hearing children and families.
And thanks to the grant $ that EHDI provided, we had money to buy a variety of summertime books, many educational books teaching sign language vocabulary , for the families to bring home.

We also provided snacks,  water and juice for kids and families. It was a great morning with lots of families socializing, and meeting one another along with their children. 😃

Event sponsored by the Hands & Voices of New York and New York State Early Hearing Detection and Intervention program (NY EDHI).
